You soak up the content, set your training plan, and start counting your blueberries. This phase will last approximately 6 days for most people. It could be completed in as little as 3, if all the stars align, but will rarely last longer than 10.

Duration: ~6 Months

Phase THREE - OFF SEASON
Duration: ~6 Months
(usually at least as long as the diet phase)
First off, some real talk. Let’s make sure we all understand something. No one - and I mean NO ONE - maintains their leanest/lightest physique year-round. Not you. Not me. And not even your favorite fitfluencer on the Gram, the Snap, or the Book.
Still, you just crossed the finish line, and you can see your abs for the first time since that perfectly lit, hotel bathroom mirror shot you staggered into back in 2006, and you’d like to hang onto that look for longer than a hot second. So what do you do? Above all else, you need to intentionally shift focus to metabolic repair and recovery.
Why?
Your body has just been through a sustained caloric deficit, with intense training, and gobs of cardio...on the daily. Translation? You.Are.Wrecked. Your appetite is probably all janked up, you might not be sleeping that great, and your hormones are likely pretty whack, too. So you how do you climb out of this physiological quagmire, while still clinging onto most of your newfound rippedness? The same way you got here: slow, steady, strategic.
Do things too quickly? You'll rebound harder than Rodman...before he was “Rodman.” Do things too sporadically? You'll bounce around faster than an 8-year old with a bag of licorice.
The reality is this. Your body isn't going to want to be shredded. It’s going to want to return to your pre-shred state ASAP. So you've got to coax it and caress it into your new normal. You can't afford to kick your feet up on a bench...inside the squat rack...to fire up Lost reruns in between sets of curls just yet. You've got a little more work to do before this becomes your new set point.

If you’re on this page (and this far down on the page at that), it’s because you want to go all in on fat loss. If you’re reading these words, it can only mean one thing...you’re ready to get after your leanest physique ever.
In short, you have one objective: max shredz.

Justin came to me with two goals.
First, he wanted to lose weight...a lot of weight. He made it very clear from day one that his primary objective was to start blasting buckets of fat off his frame. But second? He wanted to start running marathons. Tipping the scales at a handful of Krispy Kremes north of 250, and having never run before in his life, we had our work cut out for us.
Fast forward to today…

Do I need a gym membership? Can FTFL be done working out at home?Yes, you need a gym membership. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a basic gym with access to all the standard equipment. In fact, you could probably even make Planet Fitness work, “Progress-Fr..., I mean, Judgment-Free Zone” and all. I suppose you “could” train at home on FTFL, but the training protocols are structured and optimized in such a way that they assume gym access. So honestly, if you’re not prepared to go to the gym, I probably wouldn’t enroll. Now, if your garage is 3,000 sq ft of rubber mat laden iron, then you’re probably set...and I’m totally jelly.

Do I really have to weigh ALL my food? Like seriously, EVERYTHING?"Short answer - Yes. Longer answer - you should aim to measure every single thing that enters your mouth. That means foods, liquids, condiments, sauces, creamers, everything. Most people (99% or more) who have never tracked nutrition have NO IDEA how much they’re actually eating. Given the importance that nutrition will play to get you shredded, this process cannot be skipped or sidestepped. There are no shortcuts. Now… Will things come up where you can’t do this? Of course. Will free pizza parties at the office invariably leave you facedown in a steaming pile of fresh Crazy Bread (LC for the win)? Sure will. Will you inevitably find yourself stranded at a friend’s house without your food scale? Sadly, yes. You know what we call these scenarios? Life. Here, you just need to be mindful and do your best in these moments. These will only be an issue 3% of the time. Don’t let them impact the other 97%. Lastly, there will come a time when you can estimate your intake and do so accurately. So you won’t have to formally track and measure forever. But right now, you need a few months of logging in reps and building up experience before that’s even on the table.

Is this just another low-calorie, crash diet, I’m gonna hate my life, lose a few pounds, then gain it all back when I eat real food program?"I’m not gonna BS you, it is. You’re gonna be on 450 calories a day (all celery #obvi). And 2 hours on the treadmill (on an incline, tho). And if you can’t do that, you just don’t want it badly enough. I kid. I kid..! Every student who has enrolled in the course is AMAZED at how much food they are eating. Most of them literally complain about the sheer volume of food they’re required to eat. It is then that I come alongside them, wipe the tears from their eyes, and offer some encouragement to trust the process. 72 hours later, after they’ve consumed buckets of nutrient-rich calories, only to see the scale go DOWN, I no longer have to answer that objection. They’re sold, and you will be, too. And re our trusty friend, the cardio, you will do as little cardio as is possible to achieve your goals and make consistent progress. This is both strategic and necessary. Case in point? Week #1 - You’ve only got about 25 minutes of cardio scheduled. For the entire week.

I have an injury that doesn’t allow me to squat/bench/deadlift/___________ without pain. Can the training be adjusted for me?Yes! Without question, SBD are the “Big Boy Lifts” for a reason. They’re highly effective at improving your strength and building your physique. But, no one single exercise is so valuable that it should be done through pain. In fact, you should never continually do movements that cause pain. Whether you buy the course or not, please remember that. Still, on the 1-1 Consults and in the Group Coaching, we can address any injuries you might have and make all the necessary adjustments to your training protocols, with no loss of efficiency or effectiveness.

I’ve heard that Keto and Intermittent Fasting are basically like magic in terms of melting fat off your frame. Does this program use Keto or IF?Keto is fine. IF is fine. Paleo is fine. Clean Eating is fine. For fat loss, they all work, but they’re also not magic. In the end, the best nutritional strategy will always be the one you will actually do and stick to...both now and in the future. This almost always boils down to the one that you LIKE THE BEST. I have found both through my own experience and working with people over the years that a macro-based approach is the most sustainable in the long-term. Every nutritional strategy has a cost, otherwise we could all eat pumpkin pie and Ho-Ho’s and have abs. But macros are the least restrictive of the bunch, which usually translates into their preferred over the others. Still, If you personally want to incorporate some elements of Keto or IF or Paleo alongside our approach, you gotta do you, boo. As long as you hit the targets in the protocols, you’ll get your abs.

I can’t have gluten or dairy - will this still work for me?Yes, it will. Whether it be a full-blown allergy, a significant sensitivity, or even just a personal preference, your avoiding certain foods or ingredients will not prevent you from making progress. In fact, the beauty of following a macro-based approach is that you are not required to eat certain foods, and similarly, no food is off limits. This will give you the freedom and flexibility to build a nutritional strategy that is tailored to your tastes and preferences.

I just turned 60. Be straight with me...am I too old?Man, that’s OLD. It’s probably best to sit this one out and just call it a day. ;) No, most certainly not! The principles of fat loss are universal and not dependent on experience level, genetic make up, or age. Sure, some people and some demographics (maybe younger, maybe not...maybe male, maybe not) might make faster progress along the way than you, and at the same time, you will likely see results more quickly than someone else. But really - none of that is important. All that matters is you have A) a burning desire to blast some body fat and B) a willingness, passion, and commitment to execute...even when (and ESPECIALLY when) you don’t want to.

Does the program work for both men and women?Similar to the previous question, the basic principles of fat loss are universal and can be applied regardless of sex. Thus, 95% of what a man should do, a woman should do, and vice versa. Why isn’t it 100%? There are some circumstances, when the approach that a man should take and a woman should take might diverge, solely based on their male/female status. But this is very case-specific and is something that would be addressed during the 1:1. Calls and/or the Group Coaching.

You want Brad Pitt in Fight Club (maybe a tiny bit bigger), but nowhere near Arnold in Platoon, Conan the Barbarian, Terminator 1, 2, or 3, or even Twins (that’s definitely too big!) Well, let me ease your mind. First, that’s nearly impossible, without a dedicated, concerted effort, day in and day out. Arnold didn’t become “Arnold” without working very hard to build Arnold. And second, this is FULL THROTTLE Fat Loss. It’s not ¾ Throttle. Half Throttle. Or Quarter Tank Throttle. Without question, you want to maintain your muscle mass, and possibly even build a little if you can. But you’re gonna go all in on Shredz, no looking back, and the course is set up in that spirit.

I thought that was assumed. Nevertheless, no, absolutely not. FTFL is not a competition prep course. It’s for the average person who wants to sculpt an impressive physique. I’ve been competing for 20 years, and I’ve certainly picked up a few things related to building an on-stage physique. And while I was fortunate enough to nab a Novice Title back in 2017 and almost turn pro (#second), truth be told, I would classify myself as a pretty average, competitive bodybuilder. I can bring anyone from where they are now to levels of leanness they never thought possible, and FTFL will do that. But pro-level, stage-shredded? Where your cartilage is feathered and your earlobes are striated? I’m not quite there yet. If you do have aspirations of possibly competing one day, though, FTFL is the perfect precursor to a full-blown, official competition prep.
